An aerobic septic system treats wastewater with oxygen before distributing it, usually through spray heads or drip lines rather than a gravity drain field. If your property has a control panel, an air pump running, or spray heads in the yard, that is what you have. We service, pump and repair them across Northeast Texas.
Soil. In the blackland prairie that covers the western half of our area, around Greenville, Commerce and Cooper, the ground is heavy dark clay that swells when wet and cracks when dry. Water does not move through it fast enough for a conventional drain field.
An aerobic system treats the wastewater to a higher standard first, so it does not need soil that absorbs quickly. That is the entire reason they exist.

The practical difference: a conventional tank can be ignored for years and still work. An aerobic unit cannot.
Aerobic systems suit a maintenance contract better than any other system type, because the things that fail are small, predictable and cheap to stay ahead of. Scheduled visits catch a failing air pump or an empty chlorinator before the system stops treating.

Usually not, because the reason the aerobic system was installed is the soil, and the soil has not changed. Where a property sits on ground that will take a conventional field, it is worth assessing, but on blackland clay the answer is almost always no.
