We open the tank and look before we tell you what it needs. That sounds obvious, but the reason it matters is that the symptoms of a full tank, a blocked line and a failed drain field are close to identical from inside the house.
Getting that wrong is how people end up paying for a new system when they needed a pump-out and a baffle. Every septic system is different, so nothing gets priced over the phone that we have not seen.
We will tell you when it is not worth it. If the drain field has been taking solids for years, the soil pores are clogged and no repair upstream brings it back. At that point you are looking at a new field or a full replacement, and we would rather say so than sell you a repair that buys a few months.
It depends on where the fault is. Problems between the house and the tank, or in the tank itself, are almost always repairable. A drain field that has been receiving solids for years usually is not, because the soil itself is clogged. We open the system and look before saying which one you have.
Yes. Air pumps, chlorinators, floats and spray heads are all serviceable parts. Aerobic units fail at the chlorinator more often than anywhere else, and that is one of the cheapest parts on the whole system.
