Common questions
How often should a septic tank be pumped?
Every two to four years for a conventional tank and drain field, depending on household size and water use. Aerobic units generally need pumping every other year, because aerobic bacteria produce more waste than anaerobic bacteria do.
How do I know when my tank is due?
If you do not know when it was last pumped, that is the answer by itself. Waiting for symptoms is expensive: slow drains, odours and wet spots over the field all mean the problem is already under way.
Where does the waste go after you pump it?
To our own compost facility in Pickton, not a third-party site. We haul under TCEQ Transporter Registration 23977.
Do you check anything else while the tank is open?
Yes. We check the baffles every time. A failed baffle lets solids straight through to the drain field, and replacing one is cheap compared with what it prevents.
